Abstract

ABSTRACT

Microalgae are first-level producers for aquatic organisms that can  absorb heavy metals up to a certain concentration.  One type of microalgae  is Cyclotella  sp. This study aimed to determine Cycotella sp's ability to absorb heavy metals as a condition for toxicity test biota. The growth phase of Cyclotella sp microalgae is carried out for 17 days of observation to see the entire growth phase of Cyclotella sp. The results showed that Cyclotella sp qualified as a test biota for heavy metal toxicity tests according to the ASEAN-Canada Cooperative Program on Marine Science Phase II. The cell density of Cyclotella sp. on the fourth day or at the beginning of the exponential phase is 3.28 x 106 cells/ml. it can be seen that the cell density of Cyclotella sp. exceeds the minmum limit (10 x 106 cells/ml)
