Abstract


Cancer is a general term for abnormal cell growth that can infiltrate normal body system that affects body function.
The increased prevalence of cancer will lead to an increased need for cancer therapy which one of them is
chemotherapy. Non-optimal handling of the effects of chemotherapy can cause discomfort that induces anxiety. This
anxiety can be overcome by family support. The purpose of the study was to determine the relationship between family
supports with anxiety in a cancer patient who underwent chemotherapy at ArifinAchmad Hospital. This research was
designed in cross-sectional correlation. The sample was 30 respondents taken based on inclusion criteria by using
purposive sampling technique. The data were collected by distributing questionnaires and the anxiety using HARS. The
data were analyzed by chi square statistic test with alternative testfisher's exact and showed the result that there was no
relationship of family support and anxiety with p value (1.0) > α (0.05). Based on the results of this study, nurses are
expected to modify the environment to reduce anxiety.
