Abstract


Abstract

This study aimed to determine the relationship of family support for diet adherence in patients with diabetes mellitus type 2. This research method used descriptive correlation with cross sectional approach. This research was conducted in medical outpatient clinic in Arifin Achmad Hospital Pekanbaru against 72 respondents DM taken by using purposive sampling technig. Instrument used was questionnaires that was tested it’s validity and reliability. This study used Chi-square test for bivariate analysis. These results indicate that high family support and comply to diet as many as 30 respondents (81.1%), respondents who earned high family support and did not comply on diet is as much as 7 respondents (18.9%). Respondents who have low family support and comply to diet is as much as 10 respondents (28.6%), and respondents who have low family’s support  and do not comply to diet DM as many as 25 respondents (71.4%) of the obtained p value (0.000) <α (0.05). The conclusion of this study there is relationship between family support with dietary compliance of patients with type 2 diabetes in medical outpatient clinic in Arifin Achmad Hospital Pekanbaru. Based on the results of the study it’s expected Hospitals can provide information and identify family support issues and diet adherence associated with efforts to improve health care in diabetic patients. Therefore, it can improve optimal treatment.
