Abstract

Develpoment of a dynamic world energy consumption within the limitation of fossil energy reserve as well as the awareness on the environmental conservation evoke the increase of interest on a renewable energy. Chlorella pyrenoidosa is commonly recognized as in interesting species for bioethanol production due to its the carbohydrate content. Palm Oil Mill Effluent (POME) is a potential medium for microalgae to growth because it contains high nutrient sources. This research aimed to study the effect of POME concentration and light intensity to carbohydrate produced of microalgae C. pyrenoidosa. Microalgae cultivated in POME : Medium Dahril Solution (0:100; 25:75; 50:50; 75:25; 100:0) with light intensity (3000, 4000 and 5000 lux). The result showed the highest carbohydrate concentration was 289,69 mg/L at cultivation condition of POME : Medium Dahril Solution 50:50 with the light intensity 3000 lux.
