Abstract

Hydroxyapatite (Ca10(PO4)6(OH)2) is used in various biomedical applications because it has excellent biocompatibility and bioactive properties. The purpose of this study was to synthesize hydroxyapatite powder using the wet mechanochemical method and determine the effect of reaction time and the ratio of the grinding ball to the results of hydroxyapatite synthesis. At first mix CaO with a weight of 0.5 gr and NH4H2PO4 as much 0.615 gr with a Ca/P ratio of 1.67 then added with 10 ml of distilled water, and milling for 2, 4 and 6 hours with a time interval every 15 minutes stopping 5 minutes, using milled balls with the ratio of grinding balls between small milled balls (diameter of 0.3 cm) with large milled balls (diameter of 0.6 cm) are 1: 1, 1: 3, and 3: 1, with a total of 20 ball points. The results of the slurry formed were dried in an oven at 120oC and calcined at 900oC for 1 hour. The hydroxyapatite powder produced was characterized by XRD, SEM-EDX, BET and PSA. The longer reaction time of 2, 4 and 6 hours in hydroxyapatite synthesis increased the crystallinity of the samples is 86.3%, 91.5% and 95.9%. The form of hydroxyapatite is an agglomerate. The size of the hydroxyapatite powder particles produced at 6 hours with a ratio of small balls and large balls 3: 1 analyzed by PSA is 320.6 nm. The surface area of hydroxyapatite powder at 6 hours with the ratio of milled balls between small balls (diameter of 0.3 cm) and large balls (diameter of 0.6 cm) 1: 1 and 3: 1 are 18,818 m2 / gr and 5,517 m2 / gr. The morphology of HA formed is granular with a Ca/P 1.61 ratio
