Abstract

Indonesian gastrodiplomacy is carried out sporadically by the government by involving non-state actors or the Indonesian diaspora in other countries. Bristol Indonesian society as an Indonesian diaspora community in Bristol, England has a mission to introduce Indonesia to the people of Bristol through Indonesian culture and cuisine. Bristol Indonesian Society is present as a diplomatic actor who seeks to improve Indonesian gastrodiplomacy in the UK through its collaboration program with other diplomatic actors since 2015.

This research uses a neoliberal approach and uses the theory of public diplomacy, where Bristol Indonesia society as a non-governmental diplomacy actor carries out a program to promote Indonesian culture and cuisine in the UK in order to achieve more effective public diplomacy through collaboration and involvement of other international actors in the program. The research method used is a qualitative research method with direct research data collection techniques, namely primary data through interviews and secondary data through literature review.

The results of this study indicate that every individual from Indonesian citizen living in Bristol or called the Indonesian diaspora can be a message to promote Indonesian culinary culture to the public from Britain (Bristol). From the implementation of the cultural promotion program carried out by the Bristol Indonesian Society in 2015 to 2020, it was identified that in order to obtain maximum results in the promotion of culture and culinary arts, diaspora groups require the collaboration of other diplomatic actors. In this case study, the Bristol Indonesian Society collaborates to get support in the form of participation, program funding to legality and recognition.
