Abstract


Indonesia is positioned as a weak party in dealing with oil palm trade barriers in the EU. The policy issued by the EU is one of the EU's weapons to reduce its dependence on palm oil. In other words, the EU is also trying to protect and promote its domestic industry.

This study uses a descriptive qualitative method. Sources of data that researchers use, namely primary and secondary. Primary data were obtained from the websites of related institutions that have relevance to the author's research. Meanwhile, secondary data is obtained from literature studies, such as books, scientific journals, papers, theses, newspapers, magazines, documents, and other related materials. The theoretical framework that the author uses, namely; liberalism perspective, the level of analysis of the nation-state, and the concept of economic diplomacy.

This study shows Indonesia's steps to minimize trade barriers that occur. The foreign policy strategy in the form of economic diplomacy was chosen as an effort to face the EU. Indonesia made a choice on trade diplomacy efforts, and campaigns on an international scale. Trade diplomacy efforts were carried out during cooperation with the CPOC for a joint mission to the EU, MoU with the Netherlands, as well as diplomacy at the 23rd ASEAN-EU PTM. Meanwhile, the international campaign efforts during the International Workshop on Crops for Peace, the positive campaign of the Indonesian Embassy in Bern with ISEI and ETH Zurich, and the seminar on “Health, Nutritional Benefits and Potential Profitability of Palm Oil”.
