Abstract


Abstract: This study was conducted to see the level of Japanese language anxiety experienced by students. A total of 28 students in the Department of Japanese Language Education, Riau University, were the samples in this study. The instrument used is a Foreign Language Speaking Anxiety Scale (FLSAS) questionnaire from Balemir (2009) which has been modified. This questionnaire consists of 28 items with 5 Likert scale ranging from “strongly disagree” to “strongly agree”. The data that has been collected was analyzed using the IBM Statistical Package for Social Science (SPSS) version 23 application. The results of the analysis using the SPSS application showed that most Japanese Language Education students experienced moderate levels of anxiety. Anxiety in students is caused by the facilitating dimension and debilitating dimension.
